We fix C-Bus systems we didn't install

Much of our C-Bus work is on systems someone else put in, often by a company that is no longer trading. A missing programming file or a discontinued touchscreen is where we usually start, not a reason to rip it all out.

“He also is qualified in C-Bus and helped fix a faulty switch. He did a fantastic job always on time, with great communication, and very tidy.”

Programmers and electricians, not one or the other

Almost every C-Bus callout ends in one of two places. Either the fault is hardware, or it's programming. Most trades can only handle the first, which is why so many C-Bus jobs get a new dimmer fitted and still don't work.

We're a licensed electrical contractor and we write the C-Bus programming ourselves in C-Bus Toolkit. One visit, one team, no waiting on a programmer to come back next week.

Common C-Bus faults

  • Lights not responding to the wall switches, or stuck on
  • Dimmers that have failed, flicker or run hot
  • Touchscreens that are dead, frozen or no longer supported
  • LED downlights glowing faintly when switched off
  • Scenes, schedules and timers lost after a blackout or switchboard work
  • The system still runs but nobody has the programming file
  • The original installer has retired or is no longer trading
  • Relays clicking, or circuits that won't switch at all

C-Bus repairs, programming and upgrades

C-Bus fault finding

We diagnose across the C-Bus network rather than replacing units one at a time until something works.

C-Bus reprogramming

Scene, schedule and logic changes in C-Bus Toolkit, including rebuilding a lost database from scratch.

Hardware replacement

Failed dimmers, relays, switches and power supplies sourced, replaced, then programmed back in properly.

Upgrades and app control

Replace end-of-life touchscreens, move control onto a phone or tablet, or plan a staged move to KNX.

How a C-Bus service call works

Tell us the symptoms

Describe what the system is doing, or refusing to do. We'll tell you what's likely involved before anyone comes out.

On-site diagnosis

We find whether the fault is hardware, programming or the network before quoting a fix.

Repaired and tested

Parts replaced, programming restored, and tested with you before we leave.

What a service call costs

$330
to attend, including the first hour on site
$198
per hour after the first hour, in 30 minute blocks

The $330 is credited against the repair if you go ahead with it, and we quote the repair before we start it. All prices include GST. No travel charge, and nothing on the invoice you haven't agreed to.

C-Bus questions we get asked

Nobody has the programming file for my C-Bus system. Is it fixable?

Yes. A missing or corrupted database is one of the most common reasons we're called. We read what's on the network and rebuild the programming from scratch.

My C-Bus touchscreen has died and the model is discontinued. What now?

Older C-Bus touchscreens are no longer made, but the system behind them is usually fine. We can fit a current replacement or move control onto a phone or tablet.

Why do my LED downlights glow when they're switched off?

Usually a mismatch between the dimmer channel and the LED driver rather than a fault in the C-Bus system. It's fixable, and it doesn't mean the lights need replacing.

My lights stopped working after a blackout. Is the system damaged?

Often not. Scenes and schedules can drop out after a power event or switchboard work while the hardware is healthy. It's usually a reprogramming job.

Are you electricians or programmers?

Both. We're a licensed electrical contractor, licence 374272C, and we write the C-Bus programming in house. It's why most of our callouts are resolved in one visit.

Do you service commercial C-Bus as well as homes?

Yes. Offices, strata common areas and multi-residential buildings across Sydney.

Where we attend

Servicing across the Northern Beaches, the Eastern Suburbs, the Lower and Upper North Shore and the Inner West, from Palm Beach and Mosman to Point Piper, Vaucluse, Wahroonga and Balmain.
