SAL Pixie smart switches and dimmers, installed in Sydney
Pixie replaces the dimmers and switches you already have with ones your phone can talk to. No new cabling, no bus wiring, no rip-out. Installed and programmed by a licensed electrician who does this every week.
Where Pixie makes sense
Pixie is for the house you already live in. The dimmers and switches fit the wall plates you have, talk to each other over Bluetooth mesh, and are set up from an app. Rooms, scenes and schedules, without opening a wall.
It is the right answer for apartments, rentals you own, renovations that stop short of rewiring, and anyone who wants scenes and dimming without a whole-home system. For a new build, or a house that wants blinds, climate and security on the same keypads, we would point you at KNX or Dynalite instead, and we will tell you which.
What we install
- Pixie dimmers and switches in place of your existing mechs
- Pixie downlights where fittings are being replaced anyway
- The Pixie gateway for control away from home and voice assistants
- Rooms, scenes and schedules set up and named the way you use them
- Driver and LED compatibility checked before anything is ordered
Pixie smart switch or Pixie dimmer?
A Pixie smart switch turns a circuit on and off. A Pixie dimmer also sets the level, so it goes on lights that can dim. Loads that can't dim, like exhaust fans, go on a switch, and dimmable LED downlights go on a dimmer.
We work out which goes where on the walk-through, circuit by circuit, before anything is ordered.
Building a Pixie smart home
Most people start with the rooms they use most: the living areas, the kitchen and the main bedroom. Scenes and schedules come next, then the Pixie gateway if you want control away from home or voice assistants.
Because each Pixie switch replaces the one already in the wall, a Pixie smart home can be done a room at a time.
How a Pixie job runs
Walk-through
We list every switch and light, check the LED drivers and tell you what will dim cleanly and what will not.
Install
Mechs swapped, downlights fitted, all by a licensed electrician. Most houses are a day.
Set up and hand over
Scenes and schedules built with you on the day, the app on your phones, and a note of how it all works.
Pixie already installed and playing up?
Lights that flicker at low levels, switches that have dropped off the mesh, or an app that lost the house after a new modem. We service Pixie systems installed by others too.
Honest limits
Pixie is a retrofit system. It does lighting very well and it is priced accordingly. It is not the platform for whole-home integration, and we will not sell it to you as one.
Questions we get asked
Does Pixie need a hub?
Not for control inside the house. The devices talk to each other over Bluetooth mesh and to your phone directly. A gateway is added if you want control away from home or voice assistants.
Will my existing LED downlights dim properly?
Most will, some will not, and that is a driver question rather than a Pixie question. We check every circuit on the walk-through and tell you before anything is ordered.
Can Pixie work alongside a C-Bus or Dynalite system?
They run separately. In practice Pixie suits a house that has neither; if you already have a wired system we would repair or extend that first.
Is Pixie a whole-home system?
No. It is smart lighting. Blinds, climate, security and audio on one system is what whole home control is for.
Do you need an electrician for Pixie?
Yes. The dimmers and switches are wired at 230 volts, so the work must be done by a licensed electrical contractor. Ours is 374272C.
